Cesenatico, pretending to be her son, convinces a woman to pay him 3.000 euros. A 20-year-old reported.
On September 16, the Carabinieri of the Cesenatico Station reported a 20-year-old, believed to be the alleged perpetrator of the crime of “aggravated fraud”.
The military, after receiving a complaint from a local woman, carried out a series of investigations and bank checks that allowed them to identify and report the alleged perpetrator, a young resident of Campania, who used the scam that has been spreading recently, that of the "broken phone" message.
In fact, the scammer initially sent a text message to the victim, pretending to be her son and saying that he had broken his cell phone and urgently needed money to replace it. Subsequently, a series of messages were also exchanged via a “whatsapp” chat, examined by the carabinieri, in which, again impersonating the victim’s son, he tricked her into paying the sum of approximately 3.000,00 euros into a current account actually registered to the scammer. Only later, when she heard from her real son, did the woman realize she had been tricked and contacted the carabinieri.
The military took immediate action and, through bank and telematic checks, traced the identity of the alleged fraudster and reported him at liberty.
The Carabinieri highlight the importance of always paying the utmost attention to suspicious phone calls such as those just described and above all of not hesitating, even in case of doubt, to immediately report the facts to the emergency number 112 and then formally report them promptly.
