Ispica: attempts theft but is promptly stopped by passers-by. Man arrested by the Carabinieri.

Around midday on Sunday the soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Modica they arrested a 40-year-old man from Catania, unemployed and with a criminal conviction, in the act of committing the crime of attempted aggravated theft.

The man was noticed first by some passers-by and then by the owner of a Fiat Panda himself, while he was tinkering with the vehicle parked along the Ispicese coast - Marina di Marza.

The soldiers on duty on the Gazelle, on patrol duty to control the territory aimed at combating vehicle thefts especially along the coast, intervened promptly. The criminal, who had been prevented from leaving by some passers-by, was then blocked by the military.

The man from Catania will also have to answer for aggravated theft for having used violence against things. In fact the Carabinieri found him in possession of sophisticated burglary tools including a counterfeit electronic control unit, which would have allowed him, in addition to opening the door, to intervene on the control unit to start the vehicle and drive away.

The diligence of the citizens and then of the owner himself allowed the timely intervention of the military personnel he brought to the arrest in flagrante delicto of the criminal, placed under house arrest and summoned to a summary trial before the Court of Ragusa. Specific services will continue throughout the summer season in order to prevent such crimes and make holidaymakers enjoy the summer more peacefully.
