Romanengo: the scam of the fake electricity technicians fails, the Carabinieri of the Romanengo Station have arrested two men on suspicion.
The Carabinieri of the Romanengo Station have placed the suspect under arrest because they are considered responsible for theft in a home aggravated by violence against property, by the use of a fraudulent means and by having committed the crime to the detriment of an elderly person and at the same time they have arrested him for resisting a public official. two men aged 33 and 25, homeless and with criminal records.
Instead, a third accomplice managed to escape.
The Carabinieri of Camisano had intervened at the home of an elderly woman from Romanengo who had reported having been the victim of a burglary by two men.
Shortly before, the woman had heard the doorbell ring and two strangers had told her that they were technicians from the electricity company and that they had to check the electricity meter.
The woman had opened the door to talk to them, but the two had entered the house without authorization.
One had immediately gone into the bedroom, while the other had distracted the woman for several minutes, asking her for some things. Then they had quickly gone away and the victim, smelling a strong burning smell, had gone into the bedroom and had discovered that the man who had gone into that room had cut the safe with a flex and had taken gold necklaces and rings worth several thousand euros.
The woman provided the police with a precise description of one of the two alleged thieves, the one who had spoken to her for a few minutes.
And the searches had been distributed to the patrols present in the area.
The Romanengo patrol shortly after encountered a suspicious car in Via Ferrè di Offanengo, noting that there were three men on board.
The military ordered the vehicle to stop and the driver pretended to stop on the right, but immediately set off again at high speed, giving rise to a dangerous and prolonged chase in the town of Offanengo, where the fugitives made risky overtaking manoeuvres and risked running over pedestrians crossing the streets.
The patrol followed the car without losing sight of it and asked for support from other crews.
Then the fleeing car entered a closed road located on the outskirts of the town and the driver was forced to
stop. One of the three ran out of the vehicle and managed to escape into the surrounding countryside, while the other two were stopped.
They were searched and had nothing on them, while in the trunk of the vehicle they found a flexible hose complete with disks with a burning smell that made it clear that it had been used recently, work gloves, caps with visors, glasses, scissors, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches and an iron rod that could be used as a crowbar. But the stolen goods taken from the safe were not present in the car and, therefore, were not recovered.
The two detainees were taken to the Romanengo barracks where the victim also showed up to formalize the theft report. The Romanengo military prepared a photographic file that they showed to the victim who recognized the 33-year-old as one of the two men who had entered her home, namely the individual who had entertained her for several minutes while the accomplice cut the safe. The military seized the vehicle in their use, which was registered to an elderly woman living in another province and not involved in the incident, while the two men were placed under arrest on suspicion of aggravated residential theft and arrested for resisting a public official for having carried out dangerous and risky maneuvers during the escape in the car.
The two were taken to Cremona prison.
The arrest and detention were validated and they were placed under house arrest with the application of an electronic bracelet.
It is important to remember that you should always be wary of appearances, or rather of those who show up unannounced at your home pretending to be a technician from the companies that supply water, electricity and gas services. In these cases, it is important to remember to:
– never open the door to strangers;
– contact the supply company, taking into account that no organization or company sends its employees on home visits without having announced their arrival with a notice, in any case communicated well in advance;
– do not get distracted and do not lose your calm and immediately call 112 if strangers have managed to enter your home.
