Castelverde: two people reported for fraud by the local Carabinieri.

The Carabinieri of the Castelverde Station reported two people, a 60-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, for conspiracy to commit fraud.

In fact, in October, the two had the sum of 1.875 euros credited to two different Postepay cards by a 56-year-old man from Cremona, as the sum for the sale of a piece of furniture that the victim had put up for sale on a well-known classifieds site.

The scammers, in fact, through a person who pretended to be interested in the purchase over the phone, had provided codes to the seller, assuring him that if he had entered them at an ATM, they would have made him receive the credit. In reality, the seller, once he had gone to an ATM and carried out the transaction, had unknowingly recharged the scammers' Postepay cards, with 15 recharges of 125 euros each.
Once he realized what was happening, the seller tried to block the transactions, but by then the charges had been made, and the alleged buyer had already disappeared.
Having realised that he had been scammed, the victim filed a complaint at the Castelverde station and the military immediately began their investigation, quickly identifying the individuals.

The fraudsters were thus reported to the Judicial Authority of Cremona for fraud in competition.
The Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Cremona always recommend paying the utmost attention to online sales/purchases, especially when the alleged buyers, as in this case, invite the sellers to go to ATMs. Often, in fact, the victim is convinced that he/she will receive the money from the sale while in reality it is he/she who sends it to the scammers.

In case of doubt or suspicious transactions, the Carabinieri recommend being extremely wary and, if necessary, contacting the single emergency number 112.
