The teacher Yulia Chernyshova took service yesterday (11 April) as visiting professor of Eastern Slavic languages.

He will carry out teaching roles at the department of Philology and criticism of ancient and modern literatures (DFCLAM) for the degree course in Languages ​​for intercultural and business communication, which is held in the teaching center of Arezzo, on the Pionta Campus.

The teacher's first lesson Chernyshova was held on the university campus where the professor was welcomed by one special welcome of students, who have prepared some slides in Ukrainian and Russian to show one's closeness towards the teacher.

The Rector was present at the meeting Francis Frati and the Director of the Department Professor Pierluigi Pellini who delivered a welcome gift from the university.

The teacher, yes teacher of Italian language and culture at the University of Kyiv, he had previously lived in Italy perfecting his studies and research, first in Florence, then in Trento and Venice.

Italian reception specialist Taras Shevchenko, greatest Ukrainian poet, and of theory and practice of translation from Italian into Ukrainian, was invited as visiting teacher thanks to the support initiative aimed at Ukrainian teachers and researchers forced to leave Ukraine due to the war.

The teacher Chernyshova land Russian language courses within the curricular teaching of the degree course for Slavic students, but the organization of a Ukrainian language course open to all students and teaching staff. The course will be held starting in May.

The initiative that brought the Ukrainian teacher to Italy was promoted by the University of Siena in synergy with the movement #ScienceForUkraine, and saw the collaboration of teachers and staff of the University of Siena at multiple levels to allow the arrival and inclusion of the teacher from the University of Kyiv.

Based on these principles, the Russian and Ukrainian lessons that will be held by the teacher Chernyshova they will help our students learn more about those historic cultures».

His presence here today and the role he will hold in the coming months at the University of Siena are a tangible sign of the commitment of our degree course and of the entire University in favor of intercultural dialogue, a dialogue which in this historical moment it is even more important» said the teacher Letizia Cirillo, president of the degree course in Languages ​​for intercultural and business communication held in Arezzo.

«My colleague, bilingual Russian and Ukrainian, specialized in Italian studies, – underlines the teacher Alessandra Carbone of DFCLAM - it will be a very important voice to involve the students of our degree course. He will bring his teaching experience to the classroom, but also his own witness».

The teacher Chernyshova will be hosted at the residential facility of Geotechnology Center of the University of Siena a San Giovanni Valdarno. The willingness to welcome was received by the centre, which made spaces available for the scholar, also facilitating the possibility of including the teacher's son at the Linguistic high school “John of San Giovanni”, where today he was welcomed for his first day as a student in Italy.

Among the widespread demonstrations of support for the reception project in favor of the teacher, that of the professor is also worth mentioning Luca Graverini, which made spaces available for the teacher.

Other initiatives are underway at the University of Siena in support of Ukrainian students and researchers. University departments have offered their availability to welcome colleagues in difficulty into their laboratories; to the students, however, they were granted scholarships, free accommodation and meals at the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education andexemption from university fees.

A document has also been prepared on the university portal web page that collects news and opportunities. Numerous too awareness-raising and debate initiatives which allowed intense moments of sharing on the current conflict situation.
