Linguaglossa: Over 20kg of food seized in a pastry shop in the centre, owner fined €2500

Under a joint control service, the Carabinieri of the Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit NAS of Catania, together with the military of the Randazzo Company and the local Station, carried out targeted checks in various commercial activities, including bars, restaurants and pastry shops, with the aim of ensuring compliance with health and hygiene regulations and protecting consumer health. The activity, also planned on the occasion of Valentine's Day and in anticipation of the Carnival celebrations, focused on verification of the quality and traceability of foods intended for sale and consumption.

In this context, inside the laboratory of a bar-pastry shop in the center, the intervention of the NAS inspectors ended with the seizure of over 20 kg of food without any certification of origin and a fine of €2500 against the owner. The seized products range from sweets to sausages: rice zeppole, mixed sweet panzerotti, frozen croissants, fresh brioche, breadcrumbs, cured meats, dairy products, oil, apples and other food products. All of them had been stored without respecting health regulations, in inadequately ventilated rooms. The military also found serious hygiene and health deficiencies and structural criticalities within the business, elements that made it necessary to immediately report the situation to the ASP of Catania for subsequent investigations.

The health and hygiene checks carried out by the Carabinieri take on fundamental importance in preventing risks to public health, especially during the holidays when there is a greater influx of customers. The sale of food without traceability, stored in inadequate conditions or handled without respecting food safety standards, represents a serious threat to consumers.. The action of the Arma, therefore, is not limited only to the fight against irregularities, but aims to ensure that citizens can purchase and consume safe products, without health risks.
