Catania: Workplace safety violations, the Carabinieri report 1 construction entrepreneur and fines for almost 13 thousand euros.

The extraordinary control activities of the territory by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command and, in this case, by the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Catania, aimed at preventing and repressing any violations of social legislation, with particular attention to the protection of workers' health and to all those situations of undeclared or irregular work, continue without interruption.
In this context, the military of the Arma have put 3 business activities under their magnifying glass, 2 of which have revealed irregularities.

In particular, at a construction site in the “Fortino” neighborhood of Catania, the Carabinieri found that the owner, a 39-year-old resident of Gravina di Catania, had not subjected the workers to the required health surveillance, that is, the set of medical protocols necessary to protect the health and, therefore, the safety of the worker, in relation to the work environment, professional risk factors and the way in which the work activity is carried out.

Furthermore, the workers had not even been subjected to the required training for those who carry out particularly risky jobs such as bricklayers. Finally, the investigators discovered that the 2 workers present were working "illegal"; therefore the entrepreneur was reported to the Judicial Authority and the activity was suspended until the conditions of legality and safety are restored.

The checks subsequently also involved a metalworking company based in Calatabiano and, here too, the Carabinieri ascertained that 2 of the 3 workers present were irregular as they had never been formally employed and, therefore, “undeclared”.
This control activity, which ranged from the centre of Catania to the territory falling under the jurisdiction of the Carabinieri Company of Giarre, allowed for the imposition of fines of over €15.000 and the recovery of unpaid INPS/INAIL contributions amounting to €2.600.
