Catania: targeted checks by the Carabinieri for urban security, three reports and fines for over 3.000 euros

As part of the intensification of the preventive action ordered by the Provincial Command of Catania, aimed at countering widespread illegality, the Carabinieri are carrying out a series of targeted services in order to guarantee and raise the perception of real and perceived safety in the population.

In this context, The Carabinieri of the Catania Piazza Dante Company have carried out an incisive extraordinary control activity in the city centre, reporting 3 people to the Judicial Authority.

The operations involved, in particular, the places of greatest influx and aggregation of young people and, subsequently, also the more peripheral areas of the city. During the service, also checks in the so-called "red zones", that is, six specific areas of the city centre identified by the competent authorities as particularly sensitive in terms of urban security. In these areas, by order of the Prefect of Catania, it is forbidden to remain for individuals who, due to harassing, aggressive or threatening conduct, or in any case deemed dangerous to public order and safety, have been the recipients of specific removal orders.

In this context, a patrol that was travelling along Corso Sicilia A 31-year-old of Egyptian origins was recognized and stopped, who had already been hit by a removal order on March 11th precisely in reference to these provisions. The man, therefore, could not have been in that area and, for this reason, he was reported to the Judicial Authority.

A 21-year-old from Mascalucia, who had been notified of an expulsion order by the Municipality of Catania, was identified by the Carabinieri in Piazza Federico di Svevia, a particularly sensitive area. because it is often the scene of the activity of illegal parking attendants. The military personnel of the Arma, in particular, positioned themselves in a hidden way so as not to attract attention, thus managing to document how the man, in violation of the provision against him, wandered among the parked cars providing directions to motorists looking for parking, subsequently receiving compensation in money. At the end of the assessment, the 21 year old was stopped and reported at large to the Judicial Authority.

Another complaint at large involved a 43-year-old man from Catania, caught driving a vehicle despite having already been stopped for the same violation in the last two years. The man, in fact, has never obtained a driving license, thus resulting in a repeat offender with respect to behaviors already ascertained in the past.

As a corollary to the activities aimed at preventing and repressing crimes, A total of 35 vehicles and 44 people were checked, with administrative fines totalling over €3.000 being imposed on undisciplined drivers.

These territorial controls will also be intensified in the coming weekends, in anticipation of the Easter holidays that will surely attract numerous tourists to the city.
