Catania: They stole cars, 3 thieves arrested
During specific preventive territorial control services, carried out by the Carabinieri throughout the province of Catania aimed at preventing and repressing crimes, including those against property, which often affect the peaceful life of the citizen, the military of the Operational Nucleus of the Catania Piazza Dante Company they arrested three men aged 23, 51 and 52, all of whom already had criminal records, because they were responsible for attempted aggravated theft in competition.
In particular, while the Carabinieri patrol was passing along Via Corallo, they noticed the presence of the 51-year-old who, together with his friend who is one year older, he was wandering around, cautiously, among the parked cars, peering inside the cars. The two did not escape the expert eye of the Carabinieri who immediately recognized them, as they had already been arrested on other occasions for car theft.
Realizing they had been "caught", the two men exchanged a knowing glance, then walked away and reached a Volkswagen Polo, where a third accomplice, the 23-year-old, was waiting for them. The military, however, immediately stopped and checked them, also searching the VW and recovering, hidden under the front passenger seat, a modified “keyless” remote control, which allows the vehicle to be connected to the control unit and started.
Once the three were safe, the Carabinieri reached the exact point where the two men had been wandering before, and there they ascertained that a brand new Jeep Compass had been driven by the radar sensor had been removed and the connection between the remote control and the control unit had been made which would have allowed the vehicle to be stolen easily.
The three thieves, therefore, were arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority which validated their arrest.
