Catania: Gunshots, Carrying and Possession of Illegal Weapons, 55-Year-Old Arrested

Constant presence on the territory and intense information activity: these are the indications of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Catania, given to all the commands of the Etna Province, aimed at prevention and repression of crimes, including those related to weapons.

In this context the military of the Catania Nesima Station they arrested, red-handed, a 55-year-old local man with no criminal record, because he was responsible for carrying and possessing clandestine weapons, as well as firing gunshots in a public place. In this regard, the patrol of the Station, around 18.30 pm, during a patrol of the territory, While driving along Via Palermo, they heard several gunshots.

The crew immediately stopped the march to locate the exact point from which the shots had been fired. At that moment, however, the investigators they noticed an Audi A3 exiting via Ungaretti at high speed and entering via Palermo, fleeing in the opposite direction to their position.

The military personnel immediately realized that the getaway car could be connected to the gunfire and forwarded the report to the Operations Center, which promptly distributed the alert to all patrols in the area. In the meantime, colleagues at the station identified the owner of the fleeing vehicle, whose license plate the military had managed to note, informing the teams on the ground that the individual resided in the Librino neighborhood, on Viale San Teodoro.

The Carabinieri, divided into several operational teams, adopted all the necessary security measures given the probable presence of weapons. One team, positioned outside, had the task of monitoring the area to prevent a possible escape of the subject and to prevent the weapon from being thrown out of the window. The other team broke into the home of the 55-year-old who was immediately blocked and made safe.

At that point, a search was carried out throughout the house to look for weapons, and in fact, inside a piece of furniture in the living room, the soldiers from the Station found 4 .38 caliber revolvers, originally blank-firing reproductions but modified in the barrel and cylinder to make them offensive and highly lethal.

Furthermore, 28 .38 caliber cartridges, approximately one hundred blank cartridges, and various tools, including implements and cutters, presumably used for the structural modifications of the weapons found, were seized. The 55-year-old was placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, which validated the arrest, while the seized weapons and ammunition will be sent to the RIS of the Carabinieri of Messina for the necessary laboratory investigations.
