The Municipal Administration of Catania expresses its utmost solidarity with the two municipal police officers assaulted on the evening of October 10th in the historic center, in the Sebastiano Addamo square, during the performance of the night patrol service of the territory and the fight against illegal parking.

The summary trial is scheduled for today, October 12, given the flagrant nature of the acts of violence against public officials of which they were the perpetrators.
“A very serious fact - the mayor commented Trantino and the commissioner Harbour– that will not go unpunished this time either. Those who think that in Catania there are free zones and that violent conduct can go unpunished, avoiding the predictable actions of Justice, are deluding themselves; the institutional and citizen security front is united in the fight against and repression of every form of oppression”.
Full solidarity with the two Local Police officers was also expressed by the President of the Catania City Council Sebastiano Anastasi: "It is absolutely intolerable that these episodes of violence occur. As President of the City Council I ask the administration, the prefect, the national government and all the competent bodies to work on an operational plan that can stem this escalation of violence that absolutely cannot put at risk the life or safety of those who work to protect the community."
