Catania: Local Police, more operations against illegal trading and commercial counterfeiting.
The Commercial Department of the Local Police carried out numerous checks in the historic center, which resulted in 10 seizure orders for various goods and non-food trinkets, in compliance with the specific instructions given by Mayor Enrico Trantino and Councilor Alessandro Porto.
Other actions concerned the protection of urban decorum and the fight against illegal commercial activity, both in fixed and itinerant locations, including in: Via Silvestri, Via Del Bosco, Via Braille, Viale Ulisse, Viale Marco Polo, Viale Lorenzo Bolano, Via Delle Medaglie D'Oro, Via Empedocle, Via Etnea, Piazza Santa Maria del Gesù, Viale Mario Rapisardi, Piazza Due Giugno, Corso Indipendenza and the flea market of S. Giuseppe La Rena.
Following checks on 17 illegal street vendors of food and fruit and vegetables, 34 administrative reports were issued, for a total amount of 28.901 euros, for lack of authorization, lack of professional requirements and occupation of public land without a title, with the consequent seizure of the goods which were donated to charitable organizations.
Particular attention was paid to the control of the activities of the kiosks, to counter the widespread phenomenon of the occupation of public land by placing tables and chairs, in the total absence of administrative authorization, as the current laws of the Sicilian Region do not allow bar kiosks to occupy public land with furnishings intended for consumption by customers.
Seven kiosk owners were fined, with the consequent seizure of the furnishings placed on the roadway and on the sidewalk, for a total amount of 7 euros. Further checks led to the fined of 1.557 owners of entertainment venues located in Via Alfonzetti and Viale Kennedy, who carried out disco activities with noise emissions beyond the permitted hours, of which 2 was reported to the Judicial Authority for violations of the Consolidated Law on Public Safety.
