Catania: Escapes house arrest, 38-year-old arrested
The action of prevention and contrast to widespread illegality, further strengthened by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Catania, led the Carabinieri of the Catania Nesima Station to arrest for "evasion" a 38 year old from Catania, with a criminal record for property crimes.
In particular, as part of a territorial patrol service, the attention of the military was drawn to a man who, late at night, was walking in Piazza Mercato, in the populous neighborhood of Monte Po. The Carabinieri's deep knowledge of the social and criminal fabric of the area allowed them to recognise him the 38-year-old was already under house arrest in a house in that neighborhood. The rapid exchange of information with colleagues at the Operations Centre then confirmed that the man had no authorization to leave the house, especially at that hour, so the Carabinieri decided to intervene.
Aware of the risk that the escapee might notice their presence and attempt to escape, the military maintained a high level of caution, continuing to monitor him from a distance to avoid arousing suspicion. However, taking advantage of a moment of distraction by the man, the investigators immediately took action: They got out of the car and blocked him, neutralizing any possibility of escape thanks to a rapid and coordinated action.
He tried to justify himself saying he suffers from insomnia and, therefore, that he had gone out into the street to take a walk and then return "to the arms of Morpheus", but his apologies were not enough to avoid his arrest and, by order of the Judicial Authority, which validated the actions of the Carabinieri, he was again subjected to the precautionary measure of house arrest.
