The former Empire in via Zolfatai, a nightclub for years run by individuals linked to organised crime, becomes a centre of musical, but also cultural, social and civil impulse, open to the local area. The partnership between the municipal administration and the State Conservatory has in fact entered its operational phase. make it a "House of Music", at the service of the citizens, with the organizational protagonism of public bodies and associations and the development of a responsible model, capable of reconciling the reuse of assets confiscated from the mafia with the achievement of social objectives, and in this specific case musical and choreographic ones.

A meeting at the elephant palace between the Mayor Enrico Trantino with Councilor Viviana Lombardo for the Catania Municipal Administration and Carmelo Galati and Epifanio Comis, respectively President and Artistic Director, for the Music Conservatory, has established the agreement between the two entities to best valorize the property taken away from crime, through the diffusion of musical culture as an educational opportunity, thanks to the promotion and organization of events.

On December 4th, the Trantino council approved the formalization of the Agreement with the “Vincenzo Bellini” Conservatory of Catania, a university-level higher education institute, which trains and prepares both musicians and orchestra conductors, as well as singers through specific activities of composition, interpretation, execution and representation, aimed at maturing and developing musical languages, with the aim of to create a “House of Music” on a surface area of ​​over one thousand and one hundred square meters, divided into two levels with an opening roof, with events and educational activities that make it the hub of the entire province of Catania, for the diffusion of musical culture and its educational value.

An agreement between public bodies resulting from work aimed at promoting, through the re-functionalization of the confiscated property and assigned to the Municipality on the basis of a specific project presented in 2022, of which the State Conservatory assumes the management costs of the Ex Empire and its social promotion: "An extraordinary training opportunity - they said mayor Enrico Trantino e the councilor for assets confiscated from the mafia Viviana Lombardo, commenting on the Agreement

– thanks to the promotion and organization of events in which the community, in this case mainly students, has the opportunity to exhibit musical talents and proposals. A positive synergy between the Municipality and the Conservatory, started thanks to the commitment of the former councilor Michele Cristaldi, which we brought to completion, with the conviction of carrying out an action of great cultural, social and institutional scope, also for the symbolic value that this structure represents. On the front of assets confiscated from the mafia, it is necessary to remember the proposal for a new regulation, which the city council, with its own improvements, immediately adopted".
