Catania, Carabinieri checks on illegal work, drug use and dangerous driving: several fines issued

The Carabinieri have carried out several checks throughout the territory to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists. They have checked a mooring company and a nautical club fined for illegal work and violation of health and hygiene. They have subsequently checked the areas of greatest aggregation aimed at combating drugs and have stopped an 18-year-old for drug use. Finally, three fines have been issued for violations of the Highway Code.

As part of the activities aimed at preventing any form of widespread illegality, the Provincial Command The Catania Carabinieri have arranged an extraordinary control plan throughout the territory, to ensure safety for citizens and tourists that, in these summer months, crowd the Etna capital, with the aim of increasing real and perceived safety levels.

In this framework, joint services have been arranged between the territorial army, NAS (Anti-adulteration and Healthcare Units) e Labor Inspectorate Unit, with the help of the Operational Intervention Company (CIO) of the 12th Battalion “Sicilia”, in order to ascertain the safety conditions of employees in the workplace and, in particular, they were checks were carried out inside commercial and hospitality businesses located on the very crowded Catania seafront.

In a first phase of the service, the checks concerned, in particular, a boat mooring company. The owner, a 53 year old from Catania, was reported on the loose since it was ascertained that an employee of the business did not appear to have been subjected to health surveillance, or the set of health checks that are carried out by a competent doctor within the company, in order to ascertain the absence of contraindications to work and prevent the onset of occupational diseases, for this reason it was also administratively recorded with a fine of €1.423. During the inspection, then, some hygienic, sanitary and structural violations were also found, which they did to the woman another fine of a further €1.000,00. In fact, the military personnel found traces of previous dirt on the work areas and on some equipment in the kitchen rooms.

Subsequently, the checks were also carried out within a nautical club where, even there, sHygienic, sanitary and structural violations were found which they have, clearly behaved to the owner, a 71 year old from Catania, the same administrative fine of €1000,00 verifying: extractor hoods without filters, previous dirt in the benches where they stored the equipment and humidity which led to the peeling of the plaster in the kitchen areas.

Il overtime service also involved all those areas of greater aggregation and greater turnout, also finalized for the prevention and fight against drug trafficking, carrying out numerous checkpoints, during which searches were carried out on people and vehicles.

In this context to a 18 year old young man, stopped driving his scooter, it was a dose of marijuana was found, which led to him being reported to the local Prefecture as the employer.

As a corollary to the results obtained, Road traffic checks were also carried out, to combat irresponsible driving behavior that may constitute a danger to public safety. In total they were 60 drivers and passengers were identified on the road e 30 vehicles checked.

They were also 3 fines issued for violations of the Highway Code for a total of €1.212,00, mostly for serious conduct such as driving without a license and no insurance coverage, as well as administratively stopping a car.
