Bronte: Carabinieri checks together with NAS during the pistachio festival, to protect the health of citizens and tourists.

As part of the services arranged by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Catania, aimed at preventing and repressing widespread illegality as well as health and hygiene protection, the military of the territorial force, together with their colleagues from the Anti-Adultice Unit (NAS) of Catania, have intensified controls on the territory, with particular attention to events of great tourist attraction.

In this context, the Carabinieri of the Bronte Station together with those of the NAS, conducted an inspection service during the pistachio festival, which took place in the first two weekends of October in the center of Bronte. The event, organized along Corso Umberto between Piazza Piave and Piazza Spedaleri, saw the presence of numerous food stands, in addition to the restaurants, ice cream parlors and bars already active in the area, attracting thousands of visitors.
Right on the main street the Carabinieri inspected a bar, owned by a 78-year-old resident of Maniace, which was found to be without the HACCP self-control manual.

This manual, which is based on the guidelines established by the specific protocol, is essential for the prevention of food risks, because it allows operators in the sector to not lose sight of the critical points that can be found in the manufacturing processes carried out within the commercial activity.

This failure resulted in the owner being fined 2.000 euros for "failure to prepare self-control procedures relating to the HACCP system".
The inspection activities carried out by the territorial force, together with the NAS Carabinieri, are essential to guarantee consumer safety and ensure that commercial activities comply with health regulations, thus preventing any risks to public health.
