Acireale: joint checks by the Carabinieri with ASP specialists and Enel technicians, reports and sanctions.

The control activities carried out by the Carabinieri of the Acireale Company, aimed at combating widespread illegality, are part of the plan to intensify preventive services, arranged by the Provincial Command of Catania.

On this occasion, the military personnel of the Arma, supported by specialists from the Provincial Health Authority ASP of Acireale and technicians from the electricity company Enel, verified that commercial activities and private homes were in order, reporting two relatives for aggravated theft of energy and administratively sanctioning the owner of a bakery.

In this regard, the first investigation involved a building consisting of two apartments and a garage, owned by two brothers aged 39 and 35, located in the southern outskirts of the town, where an illegal connection had been made directly to the national electricity grid, causing losses of approximately 10 thousand euros.

The specialized technicians who intervened together with the Carabinieri, proceeded to remove and seize the bypass, restoring the conditions of legality and safety.

In fact, such conducts, in addition to being illegal, are above all dangerous for public health, since tampering with the meters, by introducing an electric cable to make the illegal connection, excludes all safety devices, with a serious risk of short circuits responsible, at times, for real explosions.

The inspection activity of the military of the Arma then turned to a bakery that deals with retail and wholesale sales, and also supplies some company canteens.

In the large premises of the company, owned by a 26-year-old from Aci Catena, irregularities were found in the conservation of food, some of which were not refrigerated and were stored in an internal courtyard, in addition to the lack of traceability of some raw materials.

These violations resulted in fines of €3000 against the company owner.
