Catania: In San Cristoforo, the Carabinieri discover and seize 2 and a half quintals of drugs hidden among waste materials

During one of the many reconnaissance activities in abandoned buildings and in the most isolated areas of the “San Cristoforo” district, often exploited by criminals to hide illegal material, the military personnel of the Investigative Unit they carried out an inspection in a old abandoned warehouse and in the area adjacent to it, in the vicinity of the Biscari Lighthouse, making a discovery of great importance.

During the check the Carabinieri, thanks to their deep knowledge of the criminal balance of that territory, they have in fact managed to find a huge quantity of marijuanaVarious tens of kilos, skillfully hidden among various waste materials, piled up along a side street with no way out.

Faced with such a large amount of drugs, the military then proceeded with the difficult operations of recovering the substance, even being forced to use, for the narcotics transfer activity, two vans of the Carabinieri.

At the end of the operation, they were therefore well recovered. 34 plastic bags and sacks, closed or sealed, containing approximately 2 and a half quintals of marijuana.

In-depth investigations will now be carried out, including technical-scientific ones, aimed at both understanding the criminal dynamics behind the concealment of such a large quantity of drugs in that place, and at identifying those responsible.

A severe blow to drug trafficking, considering that the retail sale of the substance would have brought in between 1.500.000 and 2.000.000 euros, sums stolen from the coffers of organised crime.
