Santa Maria a Vico: the nose of “Attila”, the Carabinieri drug-sniffing dog, among the desks of the “Ettore Majorana” Institute

This morning, after the bell rang, which marks the beginning of school activities for students, the Carabinieri from the Maddaloni company and the local station arrived at the “Ettore Majorana” Higher Education Institute in Santa Maria a Vico, followed by the Sarno (SA) dog unit for a prevention activity.

The military personnel of the Arma, in agreement with the Headmaster, Dr. Pina Sgambato, carried out checks both outside and inside the school complex, along the corridors, in the bathrooms, in the classrooms and in the common areas frequented by the students, without any critical issues being detected.

“Attila”, this is the name of the drug-sniffing dog of the Carabinieri canine unit, sniffed the backpacks and desks of the students of many classes, in some cases reporting to the handler that he had smelled traces and/or odors of narcotics, without, however, actually finding any substance.

It is likely that similar initiatives, which aim to combat the phenomena of juvenile deviance, with particular reference to drug use, will be, in agreement with the educational institutions, repeated in other schools where, more and more often, the Carabinieri go also and above all to carry out prevention activities, rather than repression, through lessons on legality, engaging with students on current and delicate issues such as bullying, gender violence, revenge porn, gang violence but also, precisely, on the dangers deriving from the use of narcotic substances.
