Merano, State Police arrests a 40-year-old foreign fugitive
The Police Chief has issued a Decree of Expulsion from the National Territory against this person, which will become effective once the sentence has been served.
Merano (Bolzano), the State Police arrests a 40-year-old foreign fugitive
Today, State Police officers on duty at the Merano Public Safety Station executed a 9-month prison sentence issued by the Bolzano Public Prosecutor's Office against ERM, a 40-year-old Moroccan citizen with a criminal record.
The convicted man was found by the police inside a house in Merano, where the fugitive had taken refuge in order to escape justice.
Specifically, the man had been sentenced with a final sentence for the crime of possession for the purpose of dealing of some batches of narcotic substances, crimes committed in the Province of Bolzano in recent years and the subject of complex investigations carried out by the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters.
ERM, following his arrest, had requested to be able to access an alternative measure to detention; however, the request was rejected by the competent Surveillance Court, as the convicted man had in the meantime been the protagonist of very serious crimes committed in a domestic context against his family members.: last September 23, in fact, the precautionary measure of the removal of the suspect from the family home located in Merano was reached, with the prohibition of approaching the wife and three minor daughters of the couple, with the subsequent application of the "electronic bracelet".
The measure was issued at the end of a complex investigation carried out by the Agents of the Merano Police Station and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Bolzano, following the initial report received from the Health Personnel of the Merano Hospital who, after having activated the "Erika Code", had made it possible to ascertain and verify the systematically violent attitude of the man towards the woman and children, through highly domineering and aggressive conduct.
After the formal procedures, at the end of the Judicial Police procedures, the convicted man was escorted to the Bolzano prison where he will serve the sentence imposed on him.
The Police Chief of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano Paolo Sartori, therefore, in consideration of what has emerged, has issued against this man a Decree of Expulsion from the National Territory, which will become effective once the sentence has been served.
"The search, identification and arrest of fugitives represents one of the priorities in the operational actions of the State Police – commented Police Commissioner Sartori –, and is aimed at making the sentences of conviction issued by the Judicial Authority enforceable, ensuring Justice for individuals who refuse to respect the laws of our Country and putting them in a position to undertake a re-educational path that can, once the sentence has been served, allow them to reintegrate into the community".
