Brenner: 64-year-old fugitive arrested for about 9 years, was about to leave the country
State Police Agents they arrested, at the Brenner station, a 64-year-old Albanian citizen wanted by the Judicial Authority of Florence for about 9 years. The man was about to leave the country on board an international train crossing the border crossing to Germany, but found the Railway Police officers, who had boarded the train, busy checking travellers in transitSurprised by the presence of the patrol, he tried in vain to remain calm and hide his nervousness to avoid the control, but he was identified anyway.
The checks on the database revealed that, in addition to having a criminal record, the man had been wanted since June 2015 following a restrictive measure issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Florence, still valid until the end of the 10 years, and still had to serve 1 year, 7 months and 24 days of imprisonment. By carrying out further investigations, the South Tyrolean police were able to reconstruct the background, discovering that the foreigner, released early in March 2015, had been expelled from Italian territory to replace the remaining sentence still to be served, and should not have returned to Italy before the expiry of the 10 years, as prescribed by law.
The man, of no fixed abode, was perfectly aware of the conditions imposed by the Judicial Authority and of the risk he would have run by breaking them. The foreigner provided full cooperation with the Polfer operators who arrested, also informing the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Bolzano, which has jurisdiction over the territory. At the end of the formal procedures, he was taken to the Bolzano prison at the disposal of the Tuscan judicial authorities.
