The man who escaped from Bolzano prison has been arrested in France: he was located after 20 days on the run.

La French Gendarmerie of Menton he performed, in the city of Sainte Agnes, European arrest warrant issued by the Court of Appeal of Bologna against the Tunisian citizen escaped from Bolzano prison last August 17th.

Following the escape of two foreign citizens, the State Police of Bolzano, under the direction of the South Tyrolean Public Prosecutor's Office, started investigations in order to track down the two fugitives. One of the two, a citizen morocchino 30 years old, was immediately arrested in Merano, while the second disappeared without a trace.

Through observation and shadowing services carried out between Alto Adige and other regions of Northern Italy and to the knowledge of the local criminal fabric, the staff of the Flying Squad of the Bolzano Police Headquarters was able to reconstruct the escapee's route. The investigative contribution of the Regional Investigative Unit of the Penitentiary Police of Padua and the analysis of video surveillance systems, which allowed us to ascertain how the young Tunisian had been transported to France already on the evening of the escape, a circumstance also confirmed by the data on vehicular transit at state borders.

Thanks to the commitment and operational skills of the police, we reached the location of the wanted person. The Bolzano Prosecutor's Office informed the Court of Appeal of Bologna, which was responsible for issuing the restrictive measure within the Schengen area.

With the close collaboration of the Central Operative Serviceand 5th Division SIRe.NE of the International Police Cooperation Service – Central Criminal Police Directorate, and thanks to the precise information provided by the Italian State Police, the French authorities arrested the young escapee yesterdayThe prisoner will be returned to Italy, where is also investigated for a robbery committed in Rimini in December 2024.
