Kompatscher: “without Austria there would be no autonomy”
The president of the Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher wanted to thank Austria for its commitment to South Tyrolean autonomy, on the occasion of the traditional Day of Austrian Municipalities, held in Innsbruck.
“This support has a very important value for Alto Adige. as it is always a concrete support", Kompatscher remarked who added: “Without Austria there would be no autonomy. It is a precious help also in this phase, in which we are negotiating with Rome the restoration of skills, which have been limited in the last two decades", added the president of the Province.
“Since Austria is a contracting party to the Paris Agreement, South Tyrol also feels this support”, remarked the South Tyrolean president, addressing the municipalities and federal provinces and, above all, the illustrious representatives present at the Municipality Day, including the President of the Austrian Republic, Alexander Van der Bellen, the Federal Chancellor, Karl Nehammer and the President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka.
In view of the upcoming negotiations with the Italian Government, Austrian President Van der Bellen expressed his best wishes to Kompatscher and Alto Adige. “History so far has shown what is possible when good will exists”, ha sottolineato Van der Bellen during his speech.
At the Day of Municipalities, organized by the Association of Austrian Municipalities, More than 2000 representatives of the various local administrations participated. The motto of this edition was: "Local. Regional. European. Municipalities in the heart of Europe”.
The attention of those present was focused on local political issues. In this context, the South Tyrolean president Kompatscher underlined the role of the Municipalities for the population: “With their activities, their services and their infrastructures, they accompany citizens in all phases of their lives”.
