Last weekend, on Friday afternoon, numerous reports have been received at the Operations Centre of the Police Headquarters via the emergency number “112 NUE” reports from citizens regarding the presence of a man who, in via Alto Adige, in a state of strong agitation probably due to the abuse of alcohol and drugs, had stripped naked in the street and was throwing objects of various kinds at passers-by.

A patrol from the State Police Flying Squad was immediately sent to the scene, and quickly managed to intercept the individual as he attempted to quickly move away in the direction of Via Trento.

After reaching him, the Police, considering the serious state of psycho-physical alteration of the subject, immediately tried to put him in a condition where he could not do harm. The man, however, did not show the slightest sign of calming down. The officers, in an attempt to stop him, found themselves faced with a violent reaction: in fact, he began to physically resist by pushing, kicking and spitting, and then punched one of the police officers. Furthermore, while trying to contain the individual, the Agents noticed that the subject was trying to take a knife out of his pants pocket, but was immediately disarmed.

Despite the difficulties, the man was eventually immobilized and forced to get into the company car, but continued to put up strong resistance: During the journey to the police station, he kicked the rear windows of the vehicle, managing to break one and bend the other outwards.

In the Largo Palatucci Offices, the subject was identified as KO, a 26-year-old Gambian citizen with no fixed abode, a guest of a “Cold Emergency Center” and illegally residing on the national territory, already burdened by numerous criminal and/or police records for crimes of various nature and severity, such as damage, illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence, drug dealing, threats, personal injury, resistance to a Public Official and invasion of land and buildings. Furthermore, he was found to be in breach of the Order of the Police Commissioner to leave the national territory issued on January 14th.

For the serious crimes committed, at the end of the Judicial Police actions KO was declared under arrest for resisting and assaulting a Public Official, as well as for aggravated voluntary damage, reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office for obscene acts in a public place, threats and carrying of weapons or objects capable of causing offence and, therefore, sent to the Bolzano District Prison.

The Police Commissioner of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano Paolo Sartori, therefore, in consideration of what was ascertained by the State Police Agents, of the proven dangerousness demonstrated several times by the individual and of his irregular position in our country, has issued against him an expulsion decree from the national territory, with a simultaneous order of accompaniment and detention at the "Corelli" repatriation holding centre in Milano, where the foreign citizen was escorted already on Saturday evening by the Immigration Office Agents of the Police Headquarters, and where he will wait to be repatriated to Gambia as soon as possible.

"It is unacceptable and unjustifiable that an individual, who arrived in our country clandestinely, instead of integrating and respecting its laws, should engage in violent, persecutory and harassing behavior, also violently attacking the State Police Agents - highlighted Police Chief Sartori -. The terror created in various areas of the city by this individual has created many problems for public order and the safety of citizens, who, thanks to their timely requests for help, were able to identify him, arrest him and expel him from our country".
