Bolzano: checks continue to combat widespread crime and urban decay in the area

Even last weekend and until this morning, ordered by the Police Chief of the Province of Bolzano Paolo Sartori specific tests have been carried out general prevention services by operational units of the Bolzano Police Headquarters, the POLFER and the Local Police of Bolzano, with the specialized support of the Crime Prevention Department of the State Police.

The City of Bolzano, therefore, has been since last Friday scene of numerous checks carried out by over 50 women and men belonging to the Police Force and aimed, as in the previous phases, to the prevention and fight against property crimes, drug dealing and predatory crime in general.

The aforementioned extraordinary security device, on Friday and Saturday evenings and until late at night, in the streets of the historic center was integrated with the usual extraordinary services cc. dd. "anti Violent Movida”, ordered by the Police Commissioner with a specific Ordinance following what was agreed at the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, and which involved the Operational Units of the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza and the Local Police, with the fundamental assistance of the Military of the “Safe Roads” Operation.

And it is thanks to this device that shortly after midnight between Saturday and Sunday, in Via Museo, near a public place where similar situations have occurred in the past, a a fight between several individuals in an evident state of alteration due to alcohol abuse was nipped in the bud. The one who caused it was sanctioned for violation of Article 688 of the Penal Code (disorderly drunkenness), and the Police Commissioner issued a warrant against him Access Ban for 2 years in all Public Places in the Historic Center of Bolzano.

The urban areas most affected by the extraordinary prevention services were those of Viale Druso, Via Alto Adige, Via Garibaldi, Via dei Cappuccini, Via Perathoner, Vicolo San Giovanni, the Railway Station and the surrounding streets, as well as the streets of the historic center, especially Piazza delle Erbe and Via Museo.

Particular attention was paid to the Casanova districts (where, last Friday, a very serious episode of violence against a minor girl), Oltrisarco and in Via Maso della Pieve; furthermore, during the aforementioned services, specific monitoring and observation activities, carried out by personnel in civilian clothes, in those areas where the presence of individuals dedicated to the drug dealing as well as those reported by citizens for the commission of illegal activities.

Furthermore, specifically, interventions were carried out to prevent and monitor attendance at the “CENTRUM” and “TWENTY” Shopping Centers, and some were inspected abandoned buildings in Salita Sant'Osvaldo and in Via Flavon, already the scene of similar police operations carried out in recent days, as well as the areas adjacent to the Parking LAURIN, Lungo Talvera and Lungo Isarco, reported by citizens as meeting places of homeless individuals, sometimes present illegally on our national territory, as well as used as reference point for the carrying out of illegal activities: since they have been found 2 subjects without any reason to justify their presence in Bolzano, the Police Chief issued the same number of arrest warrants against them Mandatory street sheets with a ban on returning to the capital of Bolzano for the next 4 years.

In this context, clear traces of the use of these places as makeshift bivouacs were also detected. This type of control has the aim of keeping these areas monitored in order to prevent critical situations for public order and safety from consolidating.

Furthermore, last Friday and this morning, the Police Commissioner ordered a monitoring and prevention service in the areas near some schools in the Municipality of Bolzano - in particular in the vicinity of the Secondary Education Institutes “Einaudi” and “Galilei” – also following reports from parents who had expressed the importance of carry out checks in proximity to the Schools during the influx and outflow of students and teachers. These monitoring activities are aimed at prevent malicious individuals from approaching children in front of schools, luring them into illegal situations or offering them the purchase of drugs. During these specific police activities, no highlight particular critical situations.

Overall – even during the 6 Checkpoints carried out along the arteries leading to the city – they were 12 public establishments, 78 vehicles and 296 people checked, Of which 103 foreigners e 99 with precedents criminal and/or police.

At the end of the operational activities – in which the Anti-Crime Division and the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters also collaborated, for their respective areas of competence – the Police Chief adopted the following Provisions:

  • 4 Mandatory Street Sheets (from the Municipality of Bolzano) against persons with criminal and/or police records, who were found in the municipal territory without any appreciable reason and in unjustified circumstances;
  • 2 Oral Notices (Preventive Measure provided for by the Anti-Mafia Code) against an equal number of Italian and foreign citizens who demonstrate a marked social dangerousness due to criminal and/or police records for crimes of various kinds, including crimes against the person, drug-related crimes, or crimes against property;
  • 3 Expulsion Decrees / Orders of Removal from the National Territory against the same number of non-EU citizens who, during the checks, were found to be irregular in Italy and with criminal and/or police records against them. Following the investigations carried out by the Immigration Office, towards 2 of them the Police Commissioner has issued the same number of Removal decrees, ordering these people to leave the territory within 7 days; if they do not comply, they will be reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office and forcibly accompanied to their country of origin.

“The extraordinary operations of control and monitoring of parks and urban areas where citizens have reported the presence of annoying individuals or those intent on committing illegal activities continue systematically, as in previous weekends,” highlighted the Police Commissioner Sartori at the end of the operation –. These police operations, as well as the prevention and surveillance activities carried out in the vicinity of schools and inside shopping centers and abandoned buildings, are of fundamental importance to prevent and contain those deviant phenomena and those criminal manifestations that clearly affect the safety of citizens, and to allow the removal from our territory of irregular individuals and those with multiple criminal records”.
